Abyssinian Cat Breeders from Around the World

If you are looking for an Abyssinian cat breeder, you're sure to find a cattery in the list below. Just click on a name and you'll be taken directly to the Abyssinian breeder’s website. If you’re looking for Abyssinian kittens, keep in mind that you should contact breeders well ahead of time.

Abyssinians, or “Abys,” are famous for their distinctive look, which is characteristic of cats in ancient Egyptian murals and cultures. The name itself is an old name for what is today Ethiopia. Geneticists and breeders to this day debate the origins of Abyssinian cats. According to one tale, modern Abyssinians descend from a female kitten taken from Egypt by a British soldier in 1868.

An Abyssinian Cat in Your Home

Abyssinian cats are distinguished by their large, pointed ears, ticked coats and long tails that taper off. They have relatively small paws, slender legs, and gold, green, hazel or copper eyes. Their coats, which often have a reddish tone, lighten as they grow older.

Abys are very playful, curious and outgoing, characteristics that make them ideal family cats. They are highly intelligent and physically adept— a well-stocked supply of play toys is a must. Although an Abyssinian cat will engage in household activities with your family and be an ongoing part of your day, Abyssinians are not always lap cats. This is a very active breed.
